It all started when Jim Rathbun stole Lynne Ellen's brother's rendition of the tune Dancing Bear. He was playing it in the Goat Barn at the Evart, Michigan Funfest, at the Osceola County Fairgrounds, in 2006. Lynne Ellen and her mom were walking through the barns, listening to the music. Her mom recognized the tune. Jim told the gathered crowd that he got his arrangement off a Dulcimer Dan album, and it was from a guy named Jeff Catt. To which Marilyn replied,
"I'm Marilyn Catt, and Jeff's my son."
Jim got caught cobbing a tune arrangement by the composer's MOM!!!
Jim, Marilyn, and Lynne Ellen were friends ever since, and along with Dale Palacek (soon was soon thereafter after roped into a lifelong co-conspirator position, with no chance of parole) , they have gathered (sucked, conned, finagled) like-minded musicians to learn, play and experience the rapture of an Evart under the tent jam session.
This is the experience that has become the Squirrels' Nest Jam, and Squirrels' Nest Live.
High energy, amazing musicanship, lifelong friendships, and tremendous FUN.
